Geetanjali Shree is a well-respected Hindi novelist and short story writer. “Tomb of Sand”, also translated by Daisy Rockwell, won the International Booker Prize in 2022, making Shree the first Indian author to receive this prestigious award. Daisy Rockwell is a Hindi and Urdu translator, as well as an artist and writer. Shree communicate in both Hindi and English. She has collaborated with the Delhi-based theatre group Vivadi as a playwright. Rockwell has a PhD in South Asian literature from the University of Chicago. She has translated several classic Hindi and Urdu literary works.
The PEN Translates award aims to increase the volume and diversity of translated literature published in the UK, support the careers and financial security of literary translators, and encourage UK publishers to acquire more international literature.
