France will officially recognize a Palestinian state: Emmanuel Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will officially recognize a Palestinian state during the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.

  • The announcement was made on July 24, 2025.
  •  Macron cited France’s “historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East” as the basis for the decision. He also linked it to the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and to provide aid to the civilian population, emphasizing that “peace is possible”.
  • France will be the first G7 nation to formally recognize a Palestinian state. This move is seen as a significant shift in Western diplomacy and is expected to put pressure on other countries, including the United Kingdom and Germany, to follow suit.
  •  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the decision, calling it a “grave mistake” and arguing that a Palestinian state in the current conditions would pose a threat to Israel’s security. The United States also rejected the plan, stating it would only serve Hamas propaganda and hinder the peace process.
  • The announcement was welcomed by Hamas and other Palestinian officials. Egypt also expressed support for France’s decision.
  • France’s decision comes amid growing international anger over the war in Gaza and increasing calls for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
  • The decision also reflects Macron’s frustration with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his desire for a more active role in finding a solution to the conflict….
  • France, along with Saudi Arabia, is co-chairing a UN conference in New York in late July 2025 to discuss a potential two-state solution
