Center urges Gig Workers to register on e-shram portal ,it was a key initiative of ministry of labor & employment calls for gig & platform workers to registered on e-shram portal for formal recognition & Benefits because it provide access to Aayushman Bharat -Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya yojana (AB-PMJAY)..previous budget included e shram portal registration for gig workers which offered identity cards & health benefits.
Health care benefits :
total 5 lakh rupees per family for secondary & tertiary hospitalization ,it covers across 31000+ empaneled public & private hospitals
Other points:
in 2020 total 7.7 millions workers were engaged in the Gig economy ,the gig worker is expected to expands to 2.3 millions workers which is 4.1 % of total workforce by 2029-2030 , at present about 47% of the gig workers is in medium skilled jobs ,about 22% is in high skilled jobs and about 31% in low skilled job
their contribution to India’s gross domestic product is estimated to be substantial but with a potential to add 1.25% to GDP by 2030 and create 90 millions jobs in the long terms ..
