BITS Pilani is establishing India’s first dedicated AI Plus Campus in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. This pioneering campus will focus heavily on Artificial Intelligence and related fields such as Data Science, Robotics, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Computational Linguistics. The project is backed by a significant investment of around ₹1,219 crore under the larger “Project Vistaar ” which also includes expansion and modernization of BITS Pilani’s Pilani, Hyderabad, and Goa campuses ,
The AI+ Campus will be spread over 35-70 acres of land provided by the Andhra Pradesh government. The campus design melds traditional Indian architectural elements with modern, sustainable infrastructure like smart buildings, IoT services, and renewable energy systems.
The development will occur in two phases:
- Phase 1 will have capacity for about 3,000 students, focusing on core AI academics and student life.
- Phase 2 will scale up to over 7,000 students and add advanced research centers, global collaboration zones, and entrepreneurship hubs.
Program offerings will include undergraduate twinning programs, cotutelle doctoral degrees with top global institutions, and master’s courses in AI, machine learning, and innovation strategy. The curriculum aims to prepare students with both foundational AI knowledge and practical application skills to tackle real-world challenges such as agriculture, climate change, and healthcare.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and BITS Pilani Chancellor Kumar Mangalam Birla have highlighted this as a transformative step toward making Amaravati a hub of advanced education and technology, positioning it as “India’s quantum valley” for deep tech innovation and education.
This initiative is part of a broader vision to create a next-generation, “digital-first” and AI-focused academic ecosystem with global standards, industry internships, and hybrid learning models. It also ties into BITS Pilani’s goal to significantly raise student intake and expand its reach through its digital education platform.
