PM SHRI Yojana, which stands for Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India, is a centrally sponsored scheme by the Government of India to develop more than 14,500 PM SHRI Schools . These schools aim to provide quality education and nurture well-rounded individuals .

Selection Process:
- Challenge Mode: Schools are selected through a challenge mode, where they compete for support to become exemplary schools .
- Three-Stage Process: The selection involves a three-stage process with definite timelines .
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Schools must be registered as elementary schools (classes 1st to 8th) in any state .
- They must be managed by the central/state/UT governments or local self-governments and have a UDISE+ code .
- The schools should have a pucca building in good condition, barrier-free access, and be safety-oriented .
- They must have separate toilets for boys and girls, potable drinking water, and hand-washing facilities .
- The enrolment of students must be more than the state average .
Financial Aspects:
- Project Cost: The total cost of the project is ₹27,360 crore, spread over five years, with a central share of ₹18,128 crore .
