SLINEX-2025 is the twelfth edition of the Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise, taking place from August 14 to August 18, 2025...
….. in Colombo and the western waters off Sri Lanka. This annual exercise aims to improve interoperability, mutual understanding, and the sharing of best practices between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies.
Conduted in Two Phases like Harbour and Sea Phases
- Harbour Phase (August 14 to 16, 2025), Hosted in Colombo.
- Activities included professional interactions, exchanges of expert knowledge, cultural programs, yoga sessions, and sports events to build camaraderie and cooperation
- Sea Phase (August 17 to 18, 2025): Conducted off the coast of Colombo.
- The phase featured high-intensity naval drills such as gunnery firing, navigation and communication exercises, seamanship evolutions, helicopter operations (including cross-deck flying), replenishment at sea, Search and Rescue (SAR) missions, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations, and Special Forces exercises.
Participating Units:
- Air Component: Sri Lanka Air Force helicopters
- Indian Navy: INS Rana (guided missile destroyer) and INS Jyoti (fleet tanker)
- Sri Lankan Navy: SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Vijayabahu (advanced offshore patrol vessels)
- Special Forces: Units from both navies participated in tactical drills.
Significance of SLINEX 2025:
SLINEX-2025 strengthens defence ties between the two nations, boosts security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), and supports India’s MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policies.
